The theme for the 3rd semester was Medicotechnical instrumentation, where we had to learn a lot about analog electronics. In my group we chose to pick a project proposal about meassurring the electric activity from the eye, thats the EOG signal. In the group we came up with the idea, that we wanted to make an eye controlled computer mouse. This would be a great asset to people to people who could not use their hands or arms to control a normal computer mouse. Furthermore people who are handicapped in a way so that they can not turn on the light themself, put on some music or log on to the internet to read the newspaper, if they just could control a computer a whole new world of opportunities would be open for them.
We made a device called EyE-C-U, that stands for "Eye Controlled Utillity". The system consist of pure hardware so that it's possible just to plug the cable in to the computer and use it like a normal computer mouse. The system meassure the EOG signal in both the horisontal and vertical movement, we made some necessary filtering and amplification. And then with digital electronics we controllede the input signal to the computer, and then we had our eye controlled computer mouse. You can read more about it here (Sorry only in danish)
